On May 11, 2016, we launched our $50 million Elevating Equity Initiative in Washington, DC’s Anacostia neighborhood! Elevating Equity is our commitment to provide resources that help long-term residents and newcomers – regardless of their income – live, work, and thrive in the neighborhoods adjacent to the future 11th Street Bridge Park. The old 11th Street traffic bridges that connect Washington, D.C.’s Capitol Hill and historic Anacostia neighborhoods have been replaced. One part of the old infrastructure is being converted to the elevated 11th Street Bridge Park, a new venue for healthy recreation, environmental education, and the arts.
The 11th Street Bridge Park will be a place unlike any other in Washington, D.C. – one that supports the community’s physical, environmental, cultural, and economic health. To support the residents living within the Bridge Park Impact Area – neighborhoods within a one-mile radius of the future site of the 11th Street Bridge Park – LISC DC works through our nonprofit partners to provide loans, grants, tax credit equity, in-kind services, and technical support. These investments will go towards ensuring that residents have access to housing that is affordable and essentials such as medical care, arts, services for youth and seniors, and early learning centers.
To date, we have made nearly $5.5 million in investments in the Bridge Park Impact Area. This includes investments that support the construction and renovation of housing for low-income families, housing initiatives, including home renovations and repairs, education, art, and culture festivals, family engagement outreach, and youth development.
