In July 2006, DC LISC welcomed Amy Garland as the newest addition to the LISC team.
A native Washingtonian, Amy, grew up and still lives in Ledroit Park.
She vividly recalls her neighborhood before its recent rebirth and though she considers many of the changes to be positive, she does look back with a sense of
nostalgia. “The open, empty lots where my brother and I used to play with our dog have been filled in with half million dollar homes! While it’s wonderful to be able to walk down the street to have brunch, I do miss my old neighbors who used to prepare snacks for us when we came home from school and watch us from windows, or porches while our parents ran errands.”
Now at LISC, Amy works to ensure that the rebirth in neighborhoods like hers benefits
all who live there. Amy manages our local legislative, public policy and advocacy work, handles funding for non-profit partners, drafts articles for publication, monitors the budget and works with our Local Advisory Committee.
She holds an English degree from The University of Virginia and a Law degree from The Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law.
