LISC Awards $100,000 for a New Infant and Toddler Center

Responding to the need for quality childcare in Washington DC, LISC awarded a $100,000 grant to the Calvary Bilingual Multicultural Learning Center (CBMLC) for a new Infant and Toddler Center that will serve 100 children.

Funds will be used for staff, professional development in services and training materials, technology upgrades, a phone system, computers and classroom furnishings.

According to Beatriz Otero, Executive Director of CBMLC, “This grant from LISC will allow us to develop a satellite site for close to 100 more children in our community while their parents attend educational programs including ESL, computer training or food services training.”

She continues, “These new early childhood education slots will help support ongoing community strengthening by building stronger families.”

This grant is one of four recent investments LISC has made in addressing the need for childcare in the District of Columbia. Other investments include grants to Bright Beginnings, Nation’s Capital Child and Family Development and Northwest Settlement House.

The Center is scheduled to open its doors to children in Fall 2004.
