When the D.C. LISC golf team plays in a “best ball” tourney, the term “best” must be loosely interpreted. For the past three out of four years, Washington, DC LISC “won” the last place trophy in the annual Marshall Heights Community Development Organization’s Golf Tournament. The Tournament brings together community members, bankers, funders, and construction partners to support MHCDO’s youth programs.
The 2004 team featured novice golfer Darcel Jackson who teamed with Marty Mellet, Phyllis Jones, and Ramon Jacobson. The team showed substantial improvement. Scores improved, fewer balls were lost, and Marty even cleared the 7th hole water trap. This year, 18 holes were completed before lunch; in 2002, the team detoured from the final two holes to hit the buffet table where skills were more suitably applied.
As the team looks to the 2005 tourney, LISC invites golfers and nongolfers alike to join us in supporting MHCDO’s valuable work and challenge us for the last place trophy.
