The championship Beacon House Falcon football teams and cheerleaders had reason to celebrate this past April. For the 2010 football season, they were going to be able to play on a completely new natural grass home field with bleachers, new lights and a new scoreboard. The field, located at the Edgewood Recreation Center at 3rd and Evarts Streets NE, had been unsuitable for play after years of deterioration.
LISC provided a $100,000 grant to Beacon House, a well respected nonprofit afterschool and summer program focused on education and recreation. The Redskins have graciously offered to maintain the field for years to come.
Beacon House, located in Edgewood Terrace has been turning out championship teams for years now. This past season, over 300 boys from the community played on their teams. It is a glue that keeps this community energized and together. We congratulate the Beacon House Falcons on their new field and thank the Redskins and NFL for their continued partnership and support!
