Meet Linda Jackson, East of the River CDC’s New Executive Director

Sn February 21, 2006 Linda Jackson joined longtime LISC partner East of the River CDC (ERCDC) as their new executive director.

No stranger to Ward 8, Linda was the former executive director of Building Bridges Across the River, the non-profit organization responsible for the creation of THE ARC on Mississippi Ave SE. Prior to that she worked for William C. Smith & Company, and a number of large real estate firms in the metropolitan area.

Of all her past experiences she notes, “working with the nonprofit was truly where I found my niche and is where I find myself most at home.”

In considering this position, Jackson admits she was hesitant, “not because I thought I could not do the job but because of the great respect and admiration I had for Retta Gilliam, my predecessor. The thought of trying to walk in her shoes was quite intimidating.” Retta served as executive director for ERCDC for 7 years until her untimely death in April 2005.

A good friend however, stepped in and gave the encouragement she needed to apply. “I am positive that at this time, this is exactly where I am supposed to be and I am excited, energized and will build on the firm foundation left by Retta and others here at the organization.”

Getting right to work, Jackson immediately set out to assure all of their supporters, community members and partners that they are on the move. Thanks to the leadership and hard work of the ERCDC staff, the organization remained strong and moved forward with existing projects. Jackson plans to build on this strong foundation by continuing ERCDC’s focus on housing production, commercial development and community services.

To those who call Ward 8 home, Jackson pledges “my door is always open; I will always reach out to them for their input, opinion and direction; I will always represent them accurately and  professionally, wherever and whenever needed. I consider myself very honored and privileged to have the opportunity to work with them – I am here for the long-run.”

LISC welcomes Linda Jackson and looks forward to a continued strong partnership!
